You’ve planned for an outdoor event and now you’re ready to all the tent rental company. There are lots of styles, sizes and shapes to choose from. In some cases, there are even color choices. The types of tents that are available include:
- Marquee Tents: Can be quite large and have open sides or sidewalls with windows. It can be square, rectangular and have a combination pole and frame.
- Clearspan Tents: Frame tents that do not require center poles or roping. Clearspan tents are often rectangular or square, but can be circular as well.
- Pole Tents: Pole tents can be round or circular with either one large pole in the center with supports or several poles throughout the interior. Pole tents are also square and rectangular as well as unusual shapes.
- Canopies: Utilize poles, frames and ropes. Usually do not include sides, quite open and often smaller than most other tents.
- Triangular: These tents usually require poles and roping and are triangular in shape.
- Saddle span (also Saddlespan or Arabesque): Harder to define because it’s an unusual swooping structure, mostly round or circular, similar to a saddle. Saddle span tents are also clear span tents that do not require center or interior supports. It is a frame structure that has endwalls to close off or can be open.
- TopTent: TopTent are relatively new. They are clear span structures utilizing a frame and are known to be installed in 15-minutes and do not require staking.
When you’re ready to make that call, here’s a short guide to assist you in your quest to find the perfect tent and to help you when dealing with tent rentals:
- Determine a budget up front. Stick with your budget.
- What kind of tent are you considering? Some tents have very dramatic lines and unusual structure. Do a web search or click on the links above to see the various kinds of tents.
- Know exactly where the tent will be placed. Will it be on grass? On asphalt? Will it fit in the space?
- Do you know where the electrical, telephone, sewage or gas lines are located?
- Will you need a non-staked tent? If so, some tents utilize weights or ballasts.
- How many people will the tent need to accommodate?
- Will you need a dance floor, banquet area, stage area inside the tent?
- Will you need sidewalls? Windows? How many doorways? Most tents include options such as doors or doorways, windows or closed off sides, sponsorship walls or panels and other options.
- Does the rental company offer the other items you’ll need, such as tables, chairs, production equipment, etc. Sometimes grouping this together will save you money.
- Ask for a price quote for the enter package, including any shipping, additional staff for setup, other rental items. Ask for the best price.
- Give your dates for rental. Most tent rentals happen from Spring through Fall, so book your tent as earlier as possible.
- Once you’ve booked the rental, ask for a specific schedule for delivery, setup and takedown.

Generally, party tent rentals (or event tent rentals) are used for the beautiful outdoors. You can imagine why – a respite from the sun, protection from raindrops, or as a focal point for an event. Tents come in a large variety of styles, sizes and shapes. Some even come in various colors, but mostly you’ll come across the traditional white tent, especially in the U.S.
